These days, you can’t trust the quality of the water you use. In many places in the world, the water service isn’t exactly the best. Substances such as chlorine, limescale, pesticides, mercury and lead may be present in the water without you noticing.
Over time, these substances can affect your skin, hair and nails. If the poor water quality has already negatively impacted your health and aesthetics, maybe it’s time that you install a new shower head filter.
Sprite shower head filters are among the best in the market. They are durable, resistant and made with the best materials to ensure a long service life. In addition, they can eliminate a high concentration of pollutants and pathogens in the water. So, they’re the best option to soften hard water.
In this article you’ll learn in some simple steps how to replace Sprite water filters.
What is Sprite Shower Filter?
Sprite Shower is a shower head manufacturer located in Corona, California. They use resistant materials such as brass and stainless steel to ensure maximum durability of their products. In addition, all their shower heads are certified by The Public Health and Safety Organization (NSF).
Currently, this company produces 8 different types of shower filters, which are:
- Slim-Line 2.
- Slim-Line Brass.
- High Output 2.
- High Output Brass.
- Available Slim-Line.
- Hose Filter.
- Perma Seal.
The lifespan of their filter cartridges can vary between 6-12 months depending on the model, water quality and frequency of use. Some shower head filters come with a replacement indicator.
All shower filters are compatible with standard 1/2-inch NPT shower arms.
What is Chlorgon?
It’s a Redox media invented by David Farley, the current CEO of Sprite Industries. This mixture of calcium sulfide, zinc and copper, converts free chlorine into an insoluble salt. The resulting salts don’t degrade so easily with the high temperature of hot water. In addition, they can’t be absorbed by the skin due to the large size of their molecules.
Chlorgon is an active ingredient present in all Sprite shower head filters. It’s proven that filters with chlorgon are more effective than common coconut shell carbon filters.
Carbon is suitable for cold water and effective at temperatures between 50º-80º F. At higher temperatures, it tends to release contaminants into the water. However, the common temperature of the hot shower water varies between 85º-105º F.
In addition, carbon shower filters are too large and decrease water pressure. On the other hand, chlorgon water filters are light and compact. So, they’re more discreet and are virtually imperceptible.
Step by Step Guide to Replace a Sprite Shower Filter
Replacing Sprite shower filters won’t take you more than five minutes. But before you start, make sure you have a roll of Teflon tape at hand to prevent water leaks. Once you have all the necessary things, this is what you should do:
Installing the Water Filter
- First, turn the shower head counterclockwise to remove it.
- Then, remove rust and residue of old Teflon tape from the shower arm’s thread.
- Apply Teflon tape on the shower arm’s thread. Do it clockwise so the Teflon tape doesn’t break while installing the filter.
- After that, install the shower head filter, turning clockwise.
- Apply Teflon tape on the water filter’s thread. Make sure not to apply too much tape to ensure a perfect fit.
- Finally, install the shower head, turning clockwise.
Changing the Filter Cartridge
- Turn the thread that joins both parts of the water filter’s housing counterclockwise.
- Separate both parts and remove the old cartridge.
- Install the new filter cartridge.
- Turn clockwise to join both parts of the water filter’s housing.
Certainly, Sprite shower head filters are the best for removing chlorine, limescale and other contaminants. Chlorgon, the active ingredient in these products, is more efficient than carbon.
Common carbon filters are too large and attract too much attention. In contrast, chlorgon-based filters are compact, lightweight, easily adjustable and very discreet. In addition, all shower filters from Sprite are certified by the NSF. So, you can be sure of their efficiency and high performance.
